S.P.D Is What I Call It (And I'm Not Talking About Power Rangers)What made me post this only now, I dunno. Maybe a short msn convo with ma old-net-pal just now, Lynette Hayden, made me put this up. Juz take it as a post-lunchtime light-hearted news, haha.
Lynette, an aussie pal of mine catered a speed-dating function about 2 years ago at some jazzy-ish bar here. Don't bother to ask me where... I obviously forget already rite. Being bored at home when Cabbage Patch's at ma mum's, I decided to get ma lazy ass off ma couch & finally watch her at work for da 1st time while helping a bit at da sidelines.
It must have been a really interesting lesson in the etiquette of dating, among other things. In terms of people-watching, it was a fascinating program & a real eye-opener.
Sometimes it was like a really bad telemovie that u juuust had to finish watching even though u're cringing, really cringing. There were about 100 people crammed into da bar. Some were expat aussies here as well... it was for people 36 and under, but there were people there who might have lied a little about their age. She made some different food, mainly cos she wanted to make something different to da norm. Where was she going with da food? U'll see. She had a white bean dip and a white bean and sun dried tomato and white bean dip on melba toasts. People were wary of eating these as the dips had garlic in them. Those that didn't think they were going to picked-up, let alone get a pash that night, had no issues with eating garlic. (Mental note; avoid serving food with garlic in it on future speed dating or dating-related events). Really at the end of da night she didn't care as long as da platters came back empty. But it was interesting nonetheless.
U know your eating habits really say a lot about u.
I remember there were people who followed da platters of food around da bar. Not a good sight.
There was one individual who grabbed a handful of lamb and mint meatballs. A handful mind u, and dipped them in the sauce and proceeded to eat them. Greed is never a good impression, especially on a first date. Ladies, u don't have to eat like a mouse, but grabbing a handful of meatballs is best left in the privacy of your own home if at all - No matter how tasty da meatballs are.
We watched someone talk themselves up. U know successful, worked overseas on Wall Street. Ordered the cheapest drink on the menu. Stop it, lah... haha. Are u for real? U wanna impress a girl, at least keep up the facade of being wealthy until da third date. Showing her how tight u are with money while trying to get a date with her will leave u alone at da bar. I think this about sums up the night - when there are 99 other single people there and u are eyeing off da people who work at da bar counter.... betul2 nya cuci mata. We were happy cos da platters really came back empty.
Hmm... anyone have any tips for the single and dateless? What could they have done to add another fone number to their moby?
By da way... S.P.D is Speed-Dating. Like duhrr... :)
